The Garden Gala originates from an inspiration Martha Buller, coordinator of Circle of Caring, had when she stopped at the Trinity Lutheran Church Biblical Garden shortly after
she began her position 11 years ago. She realized that not only Trinity Lutheran gardeners, but also other gardeners in the community, toil long and hard to make their home
landscapes attractive. Her thought was, “Why not get a tour going for the enjoyment of the community and as a benefit for the Circle of Caring program?” The idea became a
reality in 1999 with the help of Lyn Fisher and ideas from various other gardeners, including John Beck and Frank Gwinn, as well as COC volunteer, Susan Girardi, COC Council
members, Rev. Dennis Dinger and Laura Rooney, and staff support from Claire Whitten.
Circle of Caring~Faith in Action (COC) is an interfaith volunteer caregiver program with the mission of helping frail, elderly, and disabled people meet needs so they can remain
in their own homes. Through the support of more than 100 volunteers, typical assistance includes transportation, yard work, friendly visiting/phone calls, handyman chores, light
housekeeping, respite care, and ramp building. In 2007, COC assisted more than 300 people and built 19 ramps. COC is a community service, coordinated by Berger Health System,
with support from the United Way of Pickaway County and the surrounding community. All funds received are administered by Berger Health Foundation, a 501(c)(3) organization,
with 100 percent of the funds going directly to COC.
