Berger Scholarship Programs
The Scholarship Fund supports scholarship programs designed to assist local residents who wish
to pursue a career in the health care profession. Participants in these programs are encouraged to
stay in the Pickaway County area, and at Berger Hospital, after completing their education to
honor the community's investment in their future. These programs have the added benefit of helping
to ensure a future of quality care for area residents by providing "home grown," highly-skilled
professionals for our medical offices and facilities.
This ground-breaking program, one of the first of its kind in the country, allows Berger Hospital
employees and Pickaway County residents to gain quality, higher education right in our own
back yard. Accredited through OU Chillicothe, this program supports individuals who wish to
further their education, as well as new entries to the field of health care, attain their
degrees locally. The constraints and pressures of family obligations, work, and logistics mean
that virtually all of the participants would never be able to accomplish their goals of higher
education without this program. Currently, approximately 75% of the program's participants are
scholarship recipients or tuition-paid candidates from Berger Health System. To learn more about
this program, call Suzanne Welker, Corporate VP - Human Resources at 740.474.2126.
These scholarships provide college scholarships to Berger professionals who wish to further
their education as well as Berger employees who may be in administrative roles, but wish to
become a licensed healthcare professional. Friends of Berger, a very special group of dedicated
volunteer supporters, help to raise funds for these scholarships. Scholarships are also
supported through private, corporate, and civic organization donations.
