We Are Family - Berger Employees Smash First Employee Campaign Goal

group enhanced for websiteBerger Health Foundation recently completed its first-ever employee giving campaign for Berger Health System.  The employee campaign kickoff was May 5 with a Cinco De Mayo theme and the campaign concluded at the end of May.  The employee giving campaign revolved around the theme of We Are Family.

Over 200 employees contributed more than $28,000 for two great causes, well surpassing the campaign goal of $25,000.  The Foundation's Employee Giving Campaign Committee, comprised of Berger Health System employees, designated the Berger Family Assistance Fund and digital mammography as the two projects that would receive funding from this year's campaign.

The Berger Family Assistance Fund will help Berger Health System employees who may experience unforseeable hardships with temporary financial assistance to help ease the stress of such unfortunate situations.  The digital mammography project will help pay for an additional digital mammography unit for Berger Health System, which directly benefits women's health in Pickaway County.

"The success of this campaign, the first ever giving campaign, shines the spotlight on the caring individuals at Berger Health System and shows that the employees support our health system and the community." said Larry Halm, CFRE executive director of Berger Health Foundation.

Berger Health Foundation, a 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization, was created in 2004.  Its mission is to encourage, receive and be responsible for charitable gifts that support the development of health-related services at Berger Health System for the residents of Pickaway County and the surrounding communities.

Foundation Purchases Digital Mammography for Berger

March 8, 2010 - Circleville, Ohio

Women will have greater access to high-tech digital mammograms in Pickaway County thanks to the Berger Health Foundation.

The Foundation recently approved the purchase of a new digital mammography unit for Berger Health System, which will be installed at Berger’s Women’s Health Center, located at 1434 Circleville Plaza Drive near Wal-Mart.

In addition, the Foundation made the commitment to launch a fundraising campaign to fund a second digital mammography unit, which will be installed at Berger Hospital’s main campus.

“Digital mammography is just one example of how rapidly healthcare technology is changing,” said Tim Colburn, Berger Health System President & CEO. “The benefits of digital mammography versus traditional mammography are significant, and we want our patients to have the best.”

Digital technology, on average, lowers a patient’s radiation dose compared to a traditional mammogram and provides clearer pictures, especially for women with dense breast tissue. In addition, exam times are shorter and the digital process offers the ability to correct under- or over-exposed pictures without having to repeat the procedure.

“The Foundation is extremely pleased to partner with Berger Health System to expand digital mammography availability to local patients,” said Larry Halm, Berger Health Foundation Executive Director. “Almost everyone knows someone whose life has been touched by breast cancer. The disease has no social or economic boundaries.”enhanced group photo of old unit2

Early detection is the key to effective breast cancer treatment. “We understand the demands of women’s busy schedules, so we want to make mammogram screenings as simple as possible,” added Colburn. “The addition of two digital mammography machines will truly benefit our patients – both with convenience and the highest possible technology available.”
