Earlier, anecdotally, it has been thought that relating one's life story benefitted the person sharing. Recently, research coming from Canada, Johns Hopkins and New York University on "dignity therapy" has proven to significantly increase the quality of life of the story teller.
Circle of Caring, founded in 1997, is a Faith in Action Program. Its mission is to assist the frail and elderly, as well as people living with disabilities and their families, on a casual, occasional basis. COC~FIA provides transportation, handyman chores, yard work, shopping, light housekeeping, friendly visiting in person and by phone, respite care and ramp building. All of these efforts are designed to help enable those served maintain their independence, dignity and quality of life in their own homes. The services provided by COC~FIA are coordinated by Berger Health System, with support from United Way of Pickaway County, local churches and the community at large.
If you would like to attend and find out how to write your Life Story, or get an Oral History of someone else, please call the COC~FIA office at (740) 474-7844 or (740) 474-8371.
